Summer Research
A number of BCMB faculty members have students work in their laboratories in the summer, either funded by Ursinus or through external grants. Many students work for eight weeks at 40 hours per week, but some of the externally funded projects are extended to ten weeks. Talk to individual faculty members for more information. Applications are usually submitted at the beginning of the Spring Semester.
If you want a better idea of what graduate school will be like, one of these summer research opportunities (primarily at doctoral-granting institutions) may be for you. A list of institutions that have summer research programs for students interested in pharmacology. American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) also sponsors individual student grants if you can find an ASPET member to sponsor your research.
Internships
The office has developed links with a number of local companies and is the clearinghouse for all internship programs where one can work at industrial companies across the US. A list of companies and sites is given at the site.
The Society of Chemical Industry (SCI), America International Group (AIG), American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), and the American Chemical Society created the SCI Scholars Summer Internship Program to introduce chemistry and chemical engineering students to careers in the chemical industry.
Exceptional sophomores and juniors majoring in chemistry and chemical engineering can apply for a prestigious SCI Scholars summer internship. Students are selected based on the strength of their application, statement of interest in an industrial internship, and letters of recommendation.
Research Abroad
Several funding and research experiences are available during the school year or during a summer.
A NSF-sponsored research opportunity in Budapest, Hungary for students in the mid-Atlantic region. The program is run through Lebanon Valley College and runs for 10 weeks.
