Websites can be wonderful sources of information, if used correctly. Keep in mind the following tips and check out this website from Cornell University's Olin&Uris Library, it features a checklist of things to look for when viewing websites.

Tips:

Who is the author?
How current is the information?
Is it a .com, .gov .,org or .net web address?
What's the purpose of the site?
Has the information been reviewed?

Center for Media and Public Affairs
The Center for Media and Public Affairs (CMPA) is a nonpartisan research and educational organization which conducts scientific studies of news and entertainment media. CMPA's goal is to provide an empirical basis for ongoing debates over media coverage and impact through well-documented, timely, and readable studies.
The Media History Project
Promotes "the study of media history from petroglyphs to pixels." Includes an excellent timeline of media history covering art, music, television, the Internet, and video games from pre-history to today
NPR: Media
Compilation of news stories and analysis about the media industry.
Youtube
A website for user created videos and other content.
Communication Studies
CommunicationStudies.com was started by Chase Fleming as a resource for himself and fellow Communication Studies majors at Cal Poly University, located in San Luis Obispo, CA. But, the site quickly grew into much more. After positive feedback from others in the field and from universities, the site began expanding.
American Rhetoric
A resource for those studying rhetoric. This site includes transcripts of speeches and information about different types of rhetoric.
Media Education Foundation
The Media Education Foundation produces and distributes documentary films and other educational resources to inspire critical reflection on the social, political, and cultural impact of American mass media.
National Communication Association
Archives of the Museum of Broadcast Journalism
Museum.TV is happy to provide free access to over 8,500 hours of digitized radio and television content — and thousands of photos.
