Professional Societies

The world's largest scientific organization which was founded in 1876 and has over 164,000 members. The website and organization has much information of interest to biochemists. The ACS has a number of technical divisions that may be of interest to biochemists and molecular biologists including Biochemical Technology, Biological Chemistry, among others.

A professional society which has national meetings and sponsors student groups, and develops materials of interest to biochemists and molecular biologists. This society was founded in 1906 and has an international membership of over 12,000 members.

The Biophysical Society was founded in 1957 to encourage development and dissemination of knowledge in biophysics. Spanning the distance between the complexity of life and the simplicity of physical laws is the challenge of biophysics. Looking for the patterns in life and analyzing them with math and physics is a powerful way to gain insights.

The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET) was founded in 1908 and is a 4,800 member scientific society whose members conduct basic and clinical pharmacological research and work for academia, government, large pharmaceutical companies, small biotech companies, and even non-profit organizations.
